OUR WHY
Years ago, while talking with my dear friend she explained that there were many needs in the country of Zimbabwe, Africa. I asked her, "What is the greatest need? She said that, to her, newborn kits were the greatest need as these kits save lives. A mum in the bush (rural areas) in Zimbabwe, Africa would walk up to 10 miles to a clinic (a healthcare facility). At 9 months pregnant, there are few mums that want to walk that far and would end up delivering at home, increasing their chance for complications or death. With a newborn kit, if a mum knew she would recieve a kit as she delivered at a clinic, she would be more inclined to make that walk that could be life-saving for both. She would also have something to wrap and dress her new baby in.
This year, I had the sacred priviledge to spend some time in the bush in Africa with those wonderful, happy, grateful people and see first hand while visiting a clinic those beautiful babies, only hours old, dressed in pieces from a donated newborn kit.
As I came home from this precious experience, I felt empty, wanting to be able to help those dear mums in Zimbabwe. As I prayed, the thought came to have a mum to mum baby shower, where those lifesaving newborn kits would be purchased and assembled here in the States and then donated to mums in Zimbabwe as they visit a clinic, making that lifesaving walk for them and their sweet newborn.
